La Jolla Real Estate Blog: San Diego Going to Pot?

San Diego Going to Pot?

Cheech and Chong StampSan Diegans are hearing every day that there is a budget crisis and the City Council is working on a 1/2 cent increase in the sales tax.  With potholes, trash everywhere, city services cut, and overgrown roadsides, we KNOW there is a problem and the City Council and Mayor are struggling to get money to refill the city's coffers.

The headlines today read, "Authorities Seize Pot Plants on San Diego City-Owned Land".  The story goes on to read that 350 marijuana plants, valued at $1.4 million and from one to eight feet tall were confiscated today a mile south of Westfield North County Shopping Mall on 40 acres of land owned by the City of San Diego.  Agents say they do not have a suspect in today's seizure and that the investigation is ongoing.

Hmm.... wonder if the City Council has thought up a creative way to increase the City's revenue?

Hi Susan, I missed that in the paper. Too funny! With the revenue in decline and the budget the way it has been going, nothing would surprise me. Great Headline!

Susan, Perhaps the city needs t lease some land if plants are going up to 8 feet tall before they realize they are there!  Missed the story as well!  Thanks for sharing!

Deborah, I didn't think of that but you are right, 8 feet is pretty tall!  Thanks for the comment!
